After a nearly two year effort by SAY San Diego, the last six months especially was filled with powerful advocacy, heartfelt storytelling, and community-wide collaboration as the National City, City Council voted 3–2 to adopt a comprehensive Tobacco Retail License (TRL) ordinance. TRLs are a win-win for protecting youth health, preventing addiction, and improving neighborhoods! This milestone was made possible by the unwavering efforts of families, students, Promotoras, educators, public health allies, and nonprofit partners—and a Councilmember Champion. From gathering data and speaking at hearings to meeting with council members and educating the public, your voices shaped this policy every step of the way.
Final Step: Consent Hearing is Tuesday, October 7 at 6pm
Let’s finish strong! Here’s how you can support the final confirmation of the ordinance:

This is our moment to celebrate and to ensure this victory is sealed. Together, we’re building a healthier, safer National City where everyone can thrive.— Emily Miller, Co-Chair
