A UC San Diego study revealed that many online e-cigarette retailers fail to comply with critical regulations meant to protect minors. Researchers found that 73% of flavored vape purchases were successfully processed, and nearly 67% of these orders were delivered in San Diego County, despite local and federal laws prohibiting flavored e-cigarette sales and requiring age verification. Alarming findings included that 81% of deliveries were via USPS, which is prohibited from shipping vaping products, and only 1% of deliveries involved proper ID scanning.
This study highlights the urgent need for stronger oversight and enforcement on online vape sales to safeguard youth from unregulated access to e-cigarettes.
