From Classrooms to Communities: The Impact of Vape Waste

Join Parents Against Vaping for the next session in the Clear the Vapor Conversation Series on Tuesday, April 21st from 3:00–4:00 PM. This online event will focus on the growing problem of vape waste and its impact on the environment.

Speakers, including Jordan Grossman, Superintendent of Canton Public Schools, and members of PAVe’s Youth Advisory Board, will talk about how disposable e-cigarettes are showing up in schools, the health and environmental risks they bring, and how this issue can create new ways to involve young people in prevention efforts.

Community Experiences in Research Community Workshop

Join the Policy Research Center for Tobacco and the Environment on April 22 from 12:00–2:00 PM at 4775 Viewridge Ave in San Diego.

This free workshop will share updates on data collection and key findings from the research team and community partners.

The event is open to the public and includes lunch. You’ll need to register ahead of time since space is limited.

California Fair Housing in a Nutshell

Join the California Apartment Association on April 29 at 10:00 AM for “California Fair Housing in a Nutshell.” This session is a simple introduction to California’s fair housing laws.

It’s designed to help housing providers understand the rules, avoid common mistakes, and build a strong foundation for learning more about fair housing.

Topics include:

  • Which groups are protected under California law, including things like source of income and military or veteran status
  • How the law covers both obvious discrimination and policies that may seem neutral but still have unfair impacts
  • How to handle reasonable accommodation requests
  • Examples of policies that can cause problems, like occupancy limits, rules about children, using criminal background checks, or refusing to rent to Section 8 tenants

Behavioral Health and Tobacco Product Use: Addressing Disparities, Improving Outcomes

oin the UCSF Smoking Cessation Leadership Center and the National Partnership on Behavioral Health and Tobacco Use on May 5 from 10:00–11:00 AM for a webinar. They’ll introduce a new slide deck you can use to teach people about the harms of tobacco and how to treat tobacco use.

By the end of the webinar, you will:

  • Understand that people receiving behavioral health services often use tobacco at higher rates
  • Learn at least two ways to help people quit tobacco in behavioral health settings
  • Understand why treating tobacco use helps improve both mental health and overall health outcomes
