Public Health and Tobacco Prevention Advocates are Needed in Chula Vista!
What: City Council’s first discussion to strengthen the Tobacco Retail License Program (TRL)
When: Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at 5pm (optional prep meeting and food at 4pm)
Where: City Hall: 276 4th Avenue, Chula Vista overflow parking at the Public Library on 4th
Why: To educate about the need for a stronger TRL program through public comment (2 minutes or less)
The city is considering, among other components:
- 1,000 feet proximity restriction from youth receptors
- 1,000 feet proximity restriction between retailers
- Stronger penalties for more egregious violations
- Annual overt and covert compliance checks (currently 1x/2yrs and 1x/3yrs respectively)
- No licenses for pharmacies and smoke shops
